October 2024 Chai Lites

October 2, 2024 by urjtbs • Community, Social

L’Shana Tovah, Temple Beth Shalom Members and Friends!  Somehow through waiting out a hurricane, preparing for the High Holidays, and carrying on all of our usual synagogue business, our Editor and team managed to prepare a lovely issue of the Chai Lites for you!  There are lovely updates and valuable information about our High Holiday schedule of services.  We look forward to seeing you this week for Rosh Hashanah and later this month for Yom Kippur.  This is an important time for us to come together with all that is happening in the country and in the world, so many thanks to all whom contributed to these activities and this newsletter.

Hello Temple Beth Shalom Members and Friends, our next service is Erev Rosh Hashanah on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:30 pm.  We are looking forward to celebrating the start of 5785 with you!  The Rosh Hashanah Morning Service follows the next day on Thursday, October 3 at 10:30 am.  You can also see the rest of the High Holiday schedule below.

The High Holiday services are a blessing of membership in Temple Beth Shalom.  If you are not a member of our congregation, we still welcome you and encourage you to support us in bringing you these beautiful services officiated by Rabbi Herzfeld and with vocal accompaniment by our soloist, Meryl Crews, with a donation.  We would love to apply your High Holiday donation as an installment toward annual membership dues.

If you are unable to join us for any of the services at our synagogue, we also welcome you to experience any of them with us live on Zoom, using the link included below the schedule. Please email us for the Zoom link.  L’Shanah Tovah!

Shabbat/Selichot, Fri/Sat Sept 27-28

September 25, 2024 by urjtbs • Services

Hello Temple Beth Shalom Members and Friends, our Rabbi Herzfeld is back with us and we are moving into the High Holidays!  We are looking forward to having you with us to welcome Rabbi Herzfeld back and to launch our meaningful schedule of High Holiday activities.

Shabbat begins this week on Friday, September 27 at 7:30 with a traditional Shabbat service with Rabbi Herzfeld that is ZOOM ONLY.  It is getting dark earlier again, and we may be still having some weather from the tropical storm/hurricane, so Zoom is a great opportunity!  We will have the portal open early so we can get together to kibitz and schmooze.

Then the next evening on Saturday, September 28 we all return to the temple building for a delicious lasagna dinner to welcome in Selichot and to welcome back Rabbi Herzfeld.  Dinner is at 6:00 pm.  After dinner Rabbi has his annual, educational Selichot presentation followed by Havdalah, a brief and lovely Selichot service, and ending with the first sounding of the shofar of the season.

That is all too lovely to miss, but if you can’t be with us physically, you can always be with us virtually, and in spirit! Please contact us if you want the Zoom link.
