Kobrin Family Scholarship

Good Afternoon,

The Kobrin Family Scholarship is now taking applications for 2024/2025. The application deadline is 30 April 2024.

The Kobrin Family Scholarship was established in 1990 to be awarded to a qualified, full-time, graduating high school student from the Jewish communities of Orange, Osceola, or Seminole County who will be attending the University of Central Florida (UCF). The scholarship is available in the amount of $2,500 per year for a maximum of four (4) years. Scholarship recipients must maintain a 3.1 GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) each year while at UCF in order to remain qualified for the scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Student must be accepted at and planning to attend UCF as a full-time student.
  • Financial need as demonstrated by the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA
  • Graduated from any high school in Orange, Osceola, or Seminole County
  • High school GPA of at least 3.1 based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Minimum SAT test score of 1210 (Reading + Math) or ACT composite score of 25.
  • Jewish & other community involvement during high school.

Pre-Purim Celebration/Shabbat — Mar 22-23

Happy Spring Temple Beth Shalom Members and Friends!  Purim is coming early next week, so we have the opportunity to celebrate it together after a brief, traditional Shabbat service at our synagogue on Friday, March 22 at 7:30 pm.  Does anyone have an idea whom Rabbi Herzfeld will send up to the bimah this year to read the heroic tales of Esther and Mordechai?  Some unusual character to be sure!  We cannot wait until the mystery is satisfied!  Torah Study follows on Saturday, March 23 at 9:30 am, and hopefully we will all be recovered from the festivities by then.

Dear Temple Beth Shalom Congregants:

The Temple Beth Shalom President, Board Officers, and Board Trustees are pleased to welcome you into another year with our congregation, and invite you to participate in our Annual Meeting and installation of our 2024-2025 Board.

Please join us at the synagogue for the meeting and refreshments on Sunday, April 21 at 2:00 pm to hear annual reports from our 2023-2024 President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Committee Chairs.  At this Annual Meeting we will review the year’s activities and announce the 2024-2025 Board Trustees and Officers.  

Many thanks to outgoing Board Trustee, Judy Richter.  This was not your first term with the Board and we appreciate your steadiness, good humor, and ideas.

Welcome to the Board, Uriah Rose!  We are so glad for all the experience and professionalism you are bringing to Temple Beth Shalom and our Board.

We are blessed with a highly dedicated group of continuing Board Officers and Trustees.  We are grateful for their numerous contributions to our synagogue and social activities.

Member-Led AM Shabbat Service — Saturday, March 16, 10:30 am

Lay Services

You asked for daytime services, we responded:

March has an expanded in-person worship opportunity.

A morning lay-led Sabbath service is now scheduled for:

 Saturday, March 16th at 10:30 AM.

It will be led by our own Board Trustee, Arlene Greenberg.

There will not be any oneg, but we plan on having a ‘brown bag’ lunch following the service.

Hopefully many will take advantage and attend.

No Zoom access as this service is in-person only.
